This is a keepsake publication by the California Historical Society in celebration of the 140th anniversary of its book publishing program. The Society’s first book, published in 1874, was Noticias de la Nueva California written by Franciscan missionary Francisco Palóu. The original four volume publication was distinguished by its photographic illustrations of California missions and scenery. This keepsake was designed as a 14-page saddle-wire brochure which slips into a pocketed jacket featuring the lush marble paper which binds the original volumes.
